Boats are the most common means of transportation in Bocas del Toro. Bocas Town has several water taxi companies and dozens of boatmen who provide transportation between Colón Islands, Carenero Island, Bastimentos Island, and Solarte Island. You won't necessarily need a boat if you purchase a property in Bocas Town (Colon Island) or these destinations. These locations are mainly within a 2—to 8-minute taxi boat ride.
The water-taxi company PanaBocas Express S.A offers trips every 30 minutes between Bocas and Almirante. It takes 25 minutes to reach Almirante, departing every half-hour from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. They also offer trips to Loma Partida (20 minutes from Bocas) and Chiriqui Grande (40 minutes from Bocas), where you can catch a bus to David.
